IND-031-04 - The primary taxpayer's AGI or Self-select PIN from last year does not match IRS records.

I am helping my parents use Turbotax for the first time.  Their AGI is correct, right off of their tax form from last year.  I created PIN numbers for each of them, and I am getting the error notice that the Self-select PIN numbers from last year do not match IRS records.  Since they have never used Turbotax before, they cannot have PIN numbers from last year.  My search of Turbotax shows that you can use the numbers from last year, or can create new numbers each year.  Why can't I get this to process? Does this happen to all first-time users?

"My search of Turbotax shows that you can use the numbers from last year, or can create new numbers each year."

you can use the PIN number from last year, and you can select a new number each year.

if you don't have a previously selected 5-digit PIN, don't enter one, use AGI alone to verify your identity.

Mostly,  you would use one or the other to verify your identity.

Thank you for the reply, fanfare, I appreciate that.  However, I have tried to send with only the AGI, and only the Self-select PINs, and it forces me to use both.  No ability to use one or the other.  Any other ideas?
