In the stimulus section, I indicated that we received 0 for the second stimulus. However, the $1,200 Recovery Rebate Credit was not applied. Any suggestions?

Most likely, the program automatically added the rebate to the “refund meter” as you were filling out the rest of your information.   When you confirmed that you had not received a payment, it was not removed, but it was also not newly added.

You will have to check line 30 of form 1040 on your final return. After you have paid for the online version, or after you have registered for the free online version, you have an opportunity to print your return before proceeding to the final filing step. If there is any missing information, you can go back in the program and fix it at that time.

Please check line  line 30 of Form 1040 to see if the Recovery Rebate Credit was applied on your return.

  1. Click on "Tax Tools" in the left menu
  2. Click "Tools"
  3. Click "View Tax Summary" in the Tool Center window
  4. Click on "Preview my 1040" on the left

Please be aware, before you entered the stimulus payments received the refund shown in TurboTax includes the amount of Recovery Rebate Credits as if you didn't receive any stimulus payments. Once you entered the stimulus payments it took  some of the Recovery Rebate Credit off and showed the correct amount.

If this doesn't help then please review your entries:

  1. Log into TurboTax.
  2. After entering all your information click "Federal Review" at the top of your screen.
  3. On the screen "Let's make sure you got the right stimulus amount" click "Continue".
  4. You will be asked about the amounts of first round and second round stimulus payments you received.  If you did not receive a payment enter "0".
  5. TurboTax will then calculate the amount of stimulus payment remaining that you are still entitled to get.
  6. Any stimulus amount remaining due to you will show as a credit on line 30 of the 1040.
