In 2019 I purchased TurboTax Online Premier for Tax Year 2019. However, I never filed my 2019 taxes; not a CD version. Can I download onto my PC, or must I re-purchase?

The current online program can only be used for a 2020 return--no other year.  You can, however, download the .tax file for the return you started, open it in the TurboTax desktop version, and complete the return.

If you need to prepare a return for 2019 you can purchase and download the desktop software to finish the return.  To purchase the software, please click on this link:  Past Years' Products  It is not considered a "re-purchase" since you would have only been charged for TurboTax Online when you filed the return.

To access your prior year online tax return please follow these steps:

  1. Sign onto the TurboTax website with the userID you used to create the account.
  2. Scroll down to the section, Your tax returns & documents.
  3. Click Show.
  4. Click on the Year.
  5. Click Download .tax file.

The file will appear in the Downloads folder on your computer.  You can complete the return, print it, and mail it in.  When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s.  Use a mailing service that will track it, such as UPS or certified mail so you will know the IRS/state received the return.

Note:  The desktop software you need to prepare the prior year return must be installed/downloaded to a full PC or Mac.  It cannot be used on a mobile device.

If you are getting a refund, there is not a penalty for filing past the deadline.  If you owe taxes, the interest/penalties will be calculated by the IRS based on how much you owe and when they receive your return and payment. The IRS will bill you for this; it will not be calculated by TurboTax.
