If you select married filing separately on your w4 and select head of household on your w4. Can you decide later to file togetherwhen actually filing for your tax return?

Yes, you can change your mind and file a joint return no matter what you indicated on your W-4 at work.  Your W-4 just tells the employer how much tax you want to have withheld.  It does not dictate how you have to file your tax return.  married filing jointly is almost always a better way to file. Both spouses must agree to file the joint return.
