If my turbotax e-file was rejected did my tax payment still go through, or should I include a check when I send in my paper tax forms?

I entered bank details when I thought I could e-file, and now I'm guessing those don't go through if the e-file didn't, but I want to be sure.

If your e-file was rejected then no payment went though either.  It is as if the e-file did not exist.  If you are mailing your return now,

If you have federal tax due you can pay by mailing your payment with the 1040V voucher, having the payment taken out of a designated bank account, or you can pay directly on the IRS website.

You must pay your state tax due using the state’s preferred method of receiving payment.  For most states that will be by making a payment to the state’s own tax website, or by mailing a check or money order.

If your payment was for the payment to the IRS/State taxes owed, it is more than likely an authorization, which will be returned within 24-48 hours.

If your payment was for the product fees for Turbo Tax, then you will not receive a refund as those fees are for the preparation, not the filing fees.

@CarissaM  Can you confirm my credit card will not be charged for federal taxes due on a rejected efile?   The tax due and convenience fee are already listed as pending in my credit card account.   I am ready to re-submit the file but could use some direction on how to handle the payment information There's no way I can afford to double pay. -Thanks in advance.

That is correct. If your tax return was rejected then your tax payment would not process.

I just wanted to let you know that I believe your information is incorrect.  I attempted to e-file on March 21 and the IRS rejected the efile and I had to submit by mail.  I mailed in my return along with a check as directed by Turbotax, but on March 30, the IRS processed the direct debit from the checking account I submitted to Turbotax.  I think Turbotax should investigate and understand what the process is since it is a major concern for customers to potentially be charged twice.

If your return was rejected and you do not correct it and re-file, no payment will come out of your refund.

If you have been charged twice, please reach out to the IRS e-file Payment Services.

I filed my Federal return, and 30 minutes later it was rejected (via Turbo Tax). It said it wouldn't take my money until my claim was accepted.

I checked my credit card and there is the $511, I owe Federal and the $12 Fee AS PENDING. NOW, I corrected the return and went to re submit and it asked me for my credit card info again?

I decided to Print/Mail my return and mail a check, so not to be billed on my card 2x's.

BUT, my question is Will the IRS cash my check and get the money from my Credit Card (that is still currently pending) ?

I am thinking I will call my credit card and have it refused...........................

Thank you.

No, if your return was not successfully transmitted, they will not do a direct debit.

You could have gone ahead and efiled again. The pending charge would have fallen off and you would only have been charged once.

It asked me for my Credit Card number again.  I hesitated as I didn't want it deducted twice.

SO, my question is IF I mail in a Check with my return now, what will happen to that PENDING transaction on my card?

That will fall off in a couple days.

OK.

I just checked and it's been PENDING since  March 30th.

Is that when you first tried to file your return? I'm not sure how long of a hold they use, but it will eventually fall off.
