If my total RMD is the sum from 2 separate plans and I take more than 1 plans calculated total from one and less than the calculated total from the other, how do I repor

each distribution?  How do I answer the question, "Only part of this distribution was a RMD"?  I do take the sum total of the RMD.  Just not as they report it.

The IRS gets the totals for Dec 31 and knows what your total RMD should be. As long as your total matches or greater than IRS determines, no problem. You do not need to mark anything special. Just put whatever distribution as all RMD and don't worry about more or less for that particular account.

The program is trying to determine your taxable amount from a partial. Since your total is correct, mark all RMD.
