If my returns were rejected without an IP PIN and I tried getting a IRS code to fix it but my phone didn’t accept it, will I be penalized for being late with my return?

I already tried to set up an IRS account and a text message with a code from the IRS was attempted to be sent, but my non-smart phone (with texting abilities) couldn't receive the text.  So now I've been told via messages that I must now wait for the code in the usps mail.  I will be late filing now and don't know what else to do

I would file an extension if you owe money, the late fees for paying late are much lower (.5%) than the late filing penalty (5%). If you are getting a refund you do not need to worry, as returns can be filed any time in the next 3 years.

The IRS will calculate any penalty and send you a letter if you do owe.

Thanks so much!  Such a simple question and answer but no one seemed to be able to help.  When I finally got this from you, the tech folks over the phone came to the same conclusion...  I kind of thought this was what I remembered
