If I was in Army IET for most of 2017, is it considered just being employed, or does being in BCT and AIT qualify me as a student? Thanks.

In each of these training categories (Initial Entry Training, Basic Combat Training and Advanced Individual Training) you are considered "employed" as an active-duty soldier

(Students get "educated", soldiers get "trained").
