If I started a new job in December but didn't get paid until January do I need a W2 for that job?

No, you didn't receive any money from that tax year.

I thought so but better safe than sorry. Thank you much!

No. Because you received your first paycheck after the 1st of January 2016, you do not need a W-2 from the employer for the job you started in 2015. Please let me know if this helped.

I am assuming this is a w-2 position with money withheld from the check. Since you began the final week of 2021(you said you received a check as well that week), the company should have issued you a w-2. If this was your only source of income and this position does not pay lucratively, you would not need to file a return.
