If I have not gotten my 2020 unemployment adjustment should I file my 2021 taxes?

The IRS website says to NOT file an amendment. I am just worried since we have not received an adjustment for the taxes we paid and filed before the law changed. Now I am on hold for 2021 taxes.

The 2020 unemployment compensation exclusion will have no effect on your 2021 tax return.  There is no reason why you should not complete and file the 2021 tax return now.

Filing an amendment will hold things up even longer.  Just contact the IRS and see what is going on.  If you did not receive anything yet, there is a good chance that you did not really qualify for any adjustment.

Thanks - I know I do qualify.

Been trying to reach IRS but they say they have too many calls and hang up. Will keep trying! And won't file an amendment. Maybe they are really that far behind.

That is true - although eventually, I may have to adjust the additional refund that I'll receive. But think I will move ahead. Thank you!
