I selected to efile federal as well as state tax(MO) in turbotax. But at the end of filing it gives me instructions to mail Payment Voucher (Form MO-1040V) .
Form MO-1040V specifies about making check payable to Missouri Department of Revenue. Is there a way to specify efiled and paid electronically?
No. You do not need to send Form MO-1040V or any other paperwork to Missouri if you e-filed and chose to have your Missouri tax due directly debited from a bank account.
TurboTax prints out Form MO-1040V when someone owes tax.
Be sure to check your bank account a few days after your scheduled payment date to make sure your tax payment was deducted.
Otherwise, you can pay the Missouri Department of Revenue directly at File and Pay Your Individual Income Taxes.
If you selected payment by direct debit you should not mail the payment voucher (Form MO-1040V). You can verify the payment method you selected by accessing a copy of your tax return. The scheduled payment would be located on your Federal Information Worksheet Part V and Part VI on the State Information worksheet which is included with your tax return.
Hi,
I have also efiled my MO state tax and used direct debit to pay the balance. I understand that I should not mail the Payment Voucher (Form MO-1040V) as I have already paid the balance. But do I need to mail in any of the other documents e.g., MO-1040 or the federal Form 1040?
When you submitted via e-file, it would have provided you with instructions if you needed to mail any documentation or forms in. If you were not prompted, you keep all of those for your records. @satrajitc
The instructions state "Please print. Make check payable to Missouri Department of Revenue. Mail Form....." But I set up direct payment from my bank and scheduled a payment date. The guidance on this thread to follow the instructions provided doesn't make sense. Do I still need to make a payment? I could not find section V and VI on my Federal Worksheet as advised on this thread. If I don't need to make a payment because payment will be sent through the direct payment I authorized via Turbo Tax e-file process, do I still need to mail in anything?
Maybe asked differently, why am I see instructions advising me to print MO-1040V and mail payment, if I set up a direct payment through my bank on turbo tax e-file process?
No. You do not need to send Form MO-1040V or any other paperwork to Missouri if you e-filed and chose to have your Missouri tax due directly debited from a bank account.
TurboTax prints out Form MO-1040V when someone owes tax.

I too was confused by this issue. After e-filing with full electronic payment of taxes due, Turbotax prompted me with this:
"Print and Mail These Forms to the Government. Even though you e-filed, you're still required to print and mail these forms. Don't skip this important step! Your return isn't complete without it."
So then, after clicking the "Print Required Forms" button, Turbotax produced one form, MO-1040V: Individual Income Tax Voucher. But the form instruction says, "When Should I Use Form MO-1040V?
If you have an amount due on an electronically filed return, or do not submit payment in full when you file your income tax return, send Form MO-1040V with your payment."
This looks like a Turbotax glitch for MO State tax e-filing.
The "glitch" you mention is frustrating. TurboTax offers no help that I can find. What do you do? It says one thing but it charged me to do another? Which one was it? And then you come here and the advise is similarly contradictory. I've used TT for over a dozen years but this may make me move out of it. We could pay less but choose TT because it's supposed to be helpful. In this case, not so much.
What if I e filed and paid my due to Missouri but I was a few months late? I paid electronically what was originally due on April 15th, but not my late penalities because turbo tax didn't give me the option to change the amount to add for my late penatlies. Can I simply go to the Missouri Revenue site and pay what I owe in late fees and it's that simple?
Yes, you can use the calculator in this link from the Missouri Dept. of Revenue to help you determine the amount you may owe for paying the taxes after the due date.
Please use this link to make your payment directly to Missouri. There is an option to pay online using your bank account or a debit/credit card.
Thank you. A year later and I am still confused. I set up to direct deduct but after I filed Turbotax prompted me to mail a 1040v. Frustrating.
I pay Trubotax so I do not need to be frustrated.
If you e-filed and set up an electronic payment to Missouri, then you do not need to mail the 1040v.
Totally a glitch. Several of their experts wrote here thank goodness. I looked online for a general answer and saw the Turbotax reps answer at the top of the google page. As expected - not required. When i had Turbo tax phone back the first person never answered and I heard a baby in the background and then they hung up The second attempt, the woman wouldn't give me a direct answer and had no idea what i was talking about.
I appreciate your answer being here. It's very telling that the gliche from March 2023 is still there Feb of 2025.
Thought I had missed something also. I talked to a representative who said you had to send it in with a check because my state didn't accept a bank payment. I asked if there was a way to verify what I had selected and no help. What he said made no sense as I know I filled out the bank information for Federal and state. So these posts help. I will verify with bank. Looks like a know issue they have chosen not to fix and their customer support is not aware of how their product works.
As an update, MO did take the amount due directly from the bank as desired.
Please get this Missouri State issue fixed in Turbotax. It is confusing to have the product state we need to print and mail in the payment voucher (with our payment) when we elected to direct debit from our bank. Clearly this is a software error.
This is another case where Turbotax shows they have a glitch in the Missouri tax return but don't bother to correct it.
Yes, you can ignore the mail-in voucher that printed for you.

@tmmoore800 Curious how long it took for MO to take the amount you owed from your bank account after filing? I opted for the same but no money has been deducted from my bank account yet.
