If I do not have 1099s from contract/freelance work, what do I do?

These are small website projects, and definitely Mom/Pop.  Do I have to contact them and get 1099s or can I just list gross income received?

No, you don't need the Form 1099 to file an accurate tax return, as long as you know your income.  Just enter the correct income for your self-employed business.
