If I did my taxes with Turbo Tax, do I have to mail them in?

Do I have to mail my 2020 taxes in or are they  sent to IRS via Turbo Tax?

If you e-filed you do not mail anything.

Did you e-file?  Did you click a big orange button that said “Transmit my returns now?”

When you e-file your federal return you will receive two emails from TurboTax.  The first one will say that your return was submitted.  The second email will tell you if your federal return was accepted or rejected.  If you e-filed a state return, there will be a third email to tell you if the state accepted or rejected your state return.

First, check your e-file status to see if your return was accepted:

If the IRS accepted it, what does it say here?

Or does your account say “Ready to Mail?”

Note:  If it says “Ready to Mail” or “Printed” that means YOU have to mail it yourself.  TurboTax does not mail your tax return for you.

No You will get an option at the end of the step by step process. To e-file or mail.

Most people file electronically (e-file) because you will get your return much faster.

If you chose to mail the return you will obviously need to print everything out at some point.

You can e-file them through Turbotax.  Turbotax will not e-file for you.  After you've gone through the review for errors, you will be asked whether to e-file or file by mail.  If you choose e-file, the program will take you through everything that needs to be done.

Some tax returns cannot be e-filed.  It depends on their complexity.  At the end of your e-filing steps, you will be told whether your return can be e-filed or not.  Good luck.
