If I choose Other for box 14's category it won't let me Efile. Is there away around this for NYFLIEE?

This is for NYS.

Form your question, you are saying when you click on the drop-down arrow for box 14 and you click on "Other" you get an error.  Is the error in needing to fix or was your return rejected?

There are 2 "others" for Box 14.  One is other deductible state or local tax and the second is other not classified.

NYFLIEE is for paid family leave - a program similar to state disability insurance.  This tax is federally deductible (though with tax reform changes it will be harder to see a tax benefit).  You should choose "Other mandatory deductible state or local tax not on above list" Its a relatively new tax so its possible at some point in the future it may be added to the list similar to NJ FLI but there is no need to wait for an update as the tax treatment is the same with the above selection.

Sorry for not being more specific. I selected Other-deductible by state or local tax in box 14. When I do the review at the end before EFile, it says I can’t EFile my state taxes because of what I selected in box 14. It says I have to print and mail in my State taxes. This is the same way I filed last year with issues.

Select "Other not classified" as the box 14 category.  If you are itemizing go to Estimates and other taxes paid. Start/Revisit the Income Taxes Paid topic and use withholding not entered on a W2 topic.  This will provide an itemized deduction amount for state/local taxes.

If you are using the standard deduction then you don't need to enter the amount anywhere on your tax return.
