I did not not choose anything extra. I have not file yet for 2018 because of the 24.99+39.99 As I stated I've filed the last 3yrs never having this problem. Whats going on???
It sounds like you are using desktop software (CD/download). Is that correct?
If so, there is a 24.99 fee to efile a state return (except free for New York). There is no additional fee if pay upfront with credit/debit card.
If you choose to pay the efile fee out of the Federal refund, there is an additional 39.99 service fee (44.99 for California filers.)
If you haven't already filed, you can go back through the screens and change the payment method to credit/debit card.
NOTE: The 19.99 fee you mentioned is the state efile fee in early tax season, when the fee is discounted. In March the fee changed to 24.99.
First of all there was a price increase on March 1 just like for the last several years. The early discounted prices expired. The 19.99 to efile a state return goes to 24.99.
The 39.99 Refund Processing Service charge (44.99 in California) is only if you want to have the fee deducted from your federal refund. You can pay with a credit card to avoid the extra charge. What is Refund Processing?
