If I am getting a $5 Tax refund do I have to file?

technically if you're due a refund, you don't have to file.  but should there be an error and you actually owe, filing late will result in penalties and interest besides the taxes you owe.

Technically if you are required to file you have to file by the due date of your return, including extensions.

try the IRS tool to find free filing.

If you don't want the five dollars, apply it to next year's tax.

see IRS Pub 501 for who must file based on your income and circumstances.

Your refund has nothing to do with it.
