If Form W-2 Employer ID says invalid but turbo tax is wrong, I entered the correct number

My W-2 was downloaded to turbo tax from the state of kansas, but Turbo Tax software says the Employer ID is wrong. How do I override this so I can move forward and file my return?

If TurboTax says your Employer ID is invalid but you entered the correct number, try these steps:

  1. Check for Spaces or Extra Characters: Ensure there are no spaces, commas, or periods in the Employer ID field.
  2. Delete and Re-enter the EIN: Retype the Employer Identification Number (EIN) in the format XX-XXXXXXX.
  3. Delete Downloaded W-2: If the error persists, delete the downloaded W-2  by clicking the trashcan icon - under income>w2. Then manually enter the information yourself.

To manually enter your W-2 info:

  1. Open or continue your return.
  2. Navigate to the W-2 section:
    • TurboTax Online/Mobile: Go to W-2.
    • TurboTax Desktop: Search for W-2 and select the Jump to link.
  3. At We'll start with your W-2, select Work on my W-2 and Continue.
    • If you land on the Your W-2 summary screen, select Add a new W-2.
  4. Leave the employer ID section blank and Continue.
  5. Select Type it in myself.
  6. Follow the instructions to manually enter your W-2 info.

ANNND... don't use an "upload" of a PDF or picture of your W-2.

An "import" that come directly from the issuer should be OK, but sometimes even those get somewhat scrambled.

Even so, you need to clarify:

....is it the Federal EIN at the top of the form?

.......or is it the KS state ID number in box 15 of the W-2?
