If an account is in currently not collectible status with the IRS, can I be claimed as a dependent?

What?  Can you explain more?  What account?  That probably doesn't affect if you can be claimed as a dependent.

Here are the rules for claiming a dependent.  Do you qualify as a dependent?

@ZacharySparks22 whether you can be claimed as a dependent has nothing to do with whether someone else has tax issues..... you can't be declared 'not claimable' because some one who can claim you (your parents???) is past due on their taxes, if that is where you were going.

My tax account with the IRS is in CNC (currently not collectible status).  My parent wants to claim me as a dependent (I'm an adult) on her tax return.  Will her claiming me as a dependent affect my CNC status on my tax account?

And yes, I do qualify as a dependent.

@ZacharySparks22  if someone else CAN claim you that is their right; you have no say in the matter.  it is just the way it works.

if somene CAN claim you, that means you are telling me you live in that party's home, you earn less than $4300 and you are not in school and that you pay less than 50% of your own support.

Correct.  But will that affect the "currently not collectible" status of my account?  Essentially, my

concern is- I cannot pay my taxes, but someone can claim me as a dependent.  Would they expect the person claiming me as a dependent to pay my taxes for me?  Would the IRS now begin to expect my taxes to be paid?  CNC status can be changed at any time without warning.  I'm wanting to maintain my CNC status at this time.

No ... if your parents claim you they will not get hit with your tax bill  nor will this change your CNC status ... in fact it will strengthen it .
