Id verify IRS. I called irs and they told me im picked for id verification.. This is my first time filing. I filed a simple return for the recovery rebate. I have no id

Since its my first time filing.  Irs said there is no priors on file. That i will have to probably set up an appointment at local office after i recieve a letter in the mail.    I have no id i lost it a while back and having trouble getting because i have no birth certificate  my ex ripped it up mad at me along time ago.  Is there any way or any other things i can use to verify.    Im lost here and dont know what to do.  Please help me.   Thanks

Don't panic.  The reason the IRS is asking you to verify your identity is most likely to protect you against identity theft, since it is your first time filing.  Don't interpret it as having made any mistake or any type of wrongdoing. 

 

Since these are items that you will need to have in general, you can advise the IRS that you will provide what they ask for in as timely a manner as you can, and explain that you need to obtain them.  While you are waiting for the letter and the appointment, Here are links that can help you:
