I worked a side job for an online company based overseas and never got a tax form. Would that make me "employed" or "self-employed" by them?

You are self-employed if you received payments for your work, but you did not receive a tax form.  Use your own records to determine your total income and report it as 'cash' on Schedule C Business Income and Expenses.

Use the following steps to get started with the Schedule C:

  • On the top row of the TurboTax online screen, click on Search (or for CD/downloaded TurboTax locate the search box in the upper right corner)
  • This opens a box where you can type in “schedule c” (be sure to enter exactly as shown here) and click the magnifying glass (or for CD/downloaded TurboTax, click Find)
  • The search results will give you an option to “Jump to schedule c
  • Click on the blue “Jump to schedule c” link
