I worked a job 2017, did not receive 1099-misc from company, but did report the income on 2017 taxes. They finally sent the 1099-misc this year for 2017 job. What to do?

I don't want to declare the income again because I already added it to my 2017 taxes and payed the tax on it.  But I also don't want the IRS to think that I didn't report it.

Was the 1099Misc have 2017 or 2018 on it?  Did they actually pay you in 2017 or 2018?  In 2017 did you report the income on Schedule C?  If they gave you a 2018 1099Misc you do need to report it but then you can enter it as a misc expense to offset it.

1099Misc was 2018.  They payed me in 2018.  In 2017, I reported on a Schedule C.  Can you explain more on how to report, but not pay double tax since I already payed in 2017?

If they paid you in 2018, you should amend your 2017 return and omit the income, then properly report it as 2018 income this year.

I hear you, but I also think CarolynM might be correct.  I worked the job in 2017, but they didn't pay me for 2 months.  I have the documents to back it up.  Do I risk being audited for $4400 that I've already payed taxes on?  I figure that I'm low risk.

As long as your reported gross income for 2018 exceeds the total of all the 1099-misc sent to you for 2018, your chance of audit is low.  However, if you reported less gross income than 1099-misc sent to you, you can expect a computer audit for 2018, and the IRS will likely want you to shift the income to 2018 (which is correct).

Ok.  Thank you.  my reported gross income is substantially more than the total of the 1099-misc sent to me in 2018.  Now I know for future, but I don't think I will go through the pain of amending my 2017.  Thanks again.

No, you should not included 2017 income information on your current tax return.

You do not need to report this form since you have previously reported the income.

Keep the form with your 2017 tax records in support of the income you already claimed.
