The "job" where you get paid cash is self-employment. You have to report it as business income. You are in business for yourself, as far as taxes are concerned, even if you don't consider it a business. You can't report business income in TurboTax Free Edition. You have to use one of the paid editions. If you have any business expenses to deduct against your business income, you have to use either TurboTax Self-Employed or any edition of the CD or download TurboTax software.

You don't need a Form 1099-MISC to report your self-employment income or business income. You can report it based on your own records of how much you received. There is a place in TurboTax to enter general business income that was not reported on a Form 1099-MISC.

Last year i used the Deluxe program online so can i use that one again and also would this work when i report my job that taxes come out of i have no business expenses just what i got paid throughout the year so that’s still considered self employment even if i worked for someone else i know that’s what your but i just need confirmation one more time and thanks for responding

I don't think you can use Deluxe online when you don't have a 1099-MISC. If you use TurboTax Online you would have to use Self-Employed.

Any version of TurboTax will handle the job where you get a W-2 with taxes taken out. Whatever version you use for your self-employment will also handle the W-2 job.

Yes, it's still self-employment, even if you have no expenses. You were an independent contractor to the person that you "worked for." You were not an employee, and the other person was not your employer, even though you "worked for" him or her.

You are NOT an employee. You are an independent contractor. And they are not your employer. They are your customer. An employee gets a W-2 from the employer. If no taxes are taken out from what they pay you. and you are not getting a W-2, you are not an employee. You are an independent contractor. Being an independent contractor is the same as being in business for yourself or being self-employed. They are just different words for the same thing.
