I work full time and my wife had been a homemaker. We have always filed married jointly. Early in 2016 my wife started a LLC. Should we file jointly or separate for 2016?

We have filed married jointly in 2015 and earlier. This year due to the LLC I would like to know what would the preferred filing method.

It is almost always more beneficial to file using the married filing jointly status versus married filing separately. The start of an LLC in 2016 would not cause this to change.

See https://turbotax.intuit.com/tax-tools/tax-tips/IRS-Tax-Return/Should-You-and-Your-Spouse-File-Taxes-Jointly-or-Separately-/INF20137.html for an article which explains the advantages of using the married filing jointly status.

Thank for your answer.
Which version of TurboTax would you recommend that would cover the LLC aspect of filing taxes?

If it is a single member LLC, you can enter all information using Turbo Tax Self Employed. If the LLC has to file it's own tax return, you will need to use Turbo Tax Business for the LLC return and you can use Turbo Tax Premier for your personal return.
