I was a full time student in 2019 and am getting a full refund of $129 in federal but my state has me paying $400. Can someone help me with where i am off?

What state are you are resident of and did you have enough state withholding taken from your paychecks? 

Va.  2600 in income.   $129 taken out in federal and all of that being returned.   0 taken out in state and it’s showing I owe 400 in state.   Thanks 

That is not right. Review your W-2, Box 16. Perhaps you entered $20,000 instead of $2,000. 

 

VA has a progressive income tax. To owe $400, you need to have a lot more income.
