I was a dependent until September h nI moved states and became independent, but the new state is asking for my parents income

Hi, I was a dependent in NJ until I moved in September and became independent. I am being flied as a dependent on my parents taxes because I lived with them for over 6 months. When I moved to CA, I was getting a fellowship from my school that paid for my expenses, and qualifies as "unearned income". For the federal return, it is making me file an 8615, however CA is also asking for this information. Is this right? They don't live in CA so I feel like CA shouldn't need this form.

Yes, this fellowship is taxable in California because you are living in California while receiving this income.
