I was a contract employee for a restaurant delivery service last year & filing wants me to say I was self employed, that costs more than I would be getting back.

If you are an employee, you get a Form W-2. If you are not, you get a Form 1099-Misc. If that is the case, your income must be reported on Schedule C. You are responsible for your own taxes, since nothing has been withheld.

You can use Deluxe if you only have income. If you need to take expenses, then you need Self-Employed.
