I want to efile only my CA state return -- how do i do that?

In order to efile a state return, you have to either efile it at the same time as a  Federal return, OR it can be efiled by itself if the Federal return has already been previously efiled with TurboTax and has been accepted.

in other words you can't just e-file a state return.  the federal return must be efiled at the same time or earlier.
