I've sent a total of over $15,000 USD to my girlfriend who is Egyptian (she lives there) for the last year, 2020. Most of the transactions have gone towards her medical bills to pay for a surgery. And every month, usually, I'd send about $1,500 for her school, food, rent, phone bill, etc. She goes to school full-time and I'm her only source of income. I need to know which taxes I need to report/file, and I know this has exceeded the gift exclusion amount for 2020, but I don't know if this situation even requires me to report it for that and/or something else.
Unless you have gifted over $11.58 million to date then you will not owe any gift taxes.
You must report the gift given if over $15,000 in 2020 on an IRS Form 709. TurboTax does not support Form 709.
The Form 709 is required to be filed no later than the due date of a federal tax return, May 17, 2021. It is filed separately from your federal tax return and can only be mailed to the IRS using address in the Form 709 instructions.
