I used TurboTax to file an extension last year. Got an e-mail saying the filing was done. Is this just confirmation that TurboTax sent the filing extension to the IRS?

IRS sent a CP14 for late filing. I'm wondering if they did not accept the extension request.

So....you are not sure if you filed a 2023 tax return?   What does it say in your account about the return?  Does it show that a 2023 return was accepted, rejected, printed, or ready to mail?   If it says anything other than accepted then you did not successfully file a 2023 return and you will need to mail it in now.  E-filing is permanently closed for 2023 returns.   Your extension gave you until October 15 to finish preparing your return and pay any remaining balance due after paying an estimated amount by April 15.

What does it say in your IRS online account?  What is shown for a transcript for 2023?

Did you e-file?  Did you click a big orange button that said “Transmit my returns now?”

When you e-file your federal return you will receive two emails from TurboTax.  The first one will say that your return was submitted.  The second email will tell you if your federal return was accepted or rejected.  If you e-filed a state return, there will be a third email to tell you if the state accepted or rejected your state return.

First, check your e-file status to see if your return was accepted:
