If the EMT class is related to your work, you can deduct the expenses as follows:

1.  Go to Federal.

2.  Go to Deductions and Credits.

3.  Select Employment Expenses (make sure you've opened the entire list of Deductions and Credits).

4.  Choose Job-related Expenses for W-2 Employment.

5.  You will go through several areas of the section and will reach a page titled, Any Other Expenses

6.  This page has Education Expenses where you can enter expenses for your course.

What if we use the EMT class for volunteering for a 501c3? Is that considered a out of pocket volunteer expense or educational expense?
