I started my return on my family's copy of turbotax, but 5 people already efiled and it says I have to file by mail - can I just buy my own copy myself and efile?

Not from the same computer, email address or IP address.  Another copy doss not allow 5 more e-files as that limit is set by the IRS.  There are several methods to enforce the 5 limit.

OK - thank you.  I have seen that answer before when searching this subject.  No one here is submitting more than 5 returns.  It's just that six separate people used the software to complete their returns, not one person submitting others' returns.  I just need to start over using a new copy or I guess another brand if needed, so that I can efile mine.  It would be my own, different, email, and my own, different PC.  I didn't file the other five returns, but family members did.

Of course, this will be a different PC, email, but it might be in the same house.  I would hope that will work.  I do not want the hassle of filing by mail at this point.

The 5 is per software package, not person.

If it uses the same internet connection then the IP address will probably be the same and it will not be allowed.
