I reside and work in New Jersey. However, there was about 3 months in 2019 whereby I worked in NY State. I worked in the vicinity of Westchester for a company based there for 3 months. I was issued a W-2. Question: Do I need to purchase a second state in TurboTax, ultimately submitting for both NY and NJ?

That sucks. It is what it is though. I need to pay the extra bucks for the second state. Oh well 🙂

Yes, you need to prepare a nonresident NY income tax return and a resident NJ income tax return. Please read the instructions on how to file.

To ensure accurate calculations, we strongly recommend preparing your nonresident state return before you prepare any resident or part-year state returns.
