I received under $600 in commissions as an Independent Scentsy Consultant - how do I file that? And what type of income is Scentsy considered?

As, it's under $600 I have not received a 1099-NEC or 1099-MISC form.

Commissions received as a Scentsy are considered as self-employed income by the IRS. You have to report this income on your tax return even if you have not received a tax form from Scentsy.

In TurboTax, you report the income you received in cash, checks or bank transfers or without a 1099-NEC as self-employed income under Other self-employed income.

  • In business income, just under Type of Income, click on Add Income for this work
  • On the next page, click on the radio button next to Other Self-employed Income
  • Click Continue to enter your income received in cash, checks or bank transfers.

If you have expenses related to this business, you can deduct them.

You’ll need to use TurboTax Deluxe (or TurboTax Self-Employed if you have expenses to deduct), or TurboTax Home and Business.
