I received my W2 for 2023 from my precious employer, and the total wages are 155.77. I've been put of work on comp since 7/2022, and was let go on 12/22 from mozaic

I'm not sure how to file in NY with such a low number for what I earned

If the only income you had was the W2 you mentioned, you are not required to file a state return unless you meet any of these other requirements.  According to the New York State department, If you are a resident of New York State and you meet any of the following:

  • You have to file a federal return.
  • You did not have to file a federal return but your federal adjusted gross income plus New York additions was more than $4,000 ($3,100 if you are single and can be claimed as a dependent on another taxpayer's federal return).
  • You want to claim a refund of any New York State, New York City, or Yonkers income taxes withheld from your pay.
  • You want to claim any refundable or carryover credits.
