Was this for unemployment benefits? If so, they are entered in the Unemployment Compensation interview of TurboTax, found under the Wages and Income section.

There are other reasons you might have received a Form 1099-G, most commonly a state tax refund. This would be entered in the Other Common Income  section. Also, if you’ve received a Form 1099-G in the mail, you might have received payment from the government for a variety of things, such as:

  • Taxable grants
  • Agriculture program payments
  • Reemployment trade adjustment assistance (RTAA) payments
  • Business tax refund
  • Market gains

The attached screen shot shows where to find both the Unemployment and the Other Common Income sections.
