I play music at my church and the pay me and issued a 1099 misc. I do not have a business and the program keeps asking for a business code. what code do I use?

There is a lookup function in the Business Profile section. For present purposes, the correct code is 711510 - Independent Artists, Writers, and Performers.

If you received a 1099 Misc from the church they are considering you an independent contractor which is equal to be self-employed.  You can enter code 999999.  It is for statistical purposes and does not affect your return.
