I paid estimated taxes for a household employee under my EIN. Where do I enter this in my returns?

I originally added it as an estimated tax, but it was rejected since it was under an EIN not my SSN.

Please return to the estimated tax payments and remove these amounts.

The taxes paid for your household employee must be reported on Schedule H. To do this in TurboTax, follow these steps:

  • Inside TurboTax, in the search box, enter household employee taxes, sch h.
  • Select the Jump to link in the search results and continue with the interview.

If I remove the information about the estimated taxes I already paid quarterly (in 2021), how does TurboTax know that I paid them? When I put in the information from my Schedule H in the nanny tax section, it dialed my refund back a ton as if I hadn't paid the estimated taxes at all.

@WeAreWilkinson You do need to enter your estimated taxes in TurboTax, assuming you paid them using your social security number. The taxes you owe will show up on schedule H, but the taxes you have paid need to be entered as estimated taxes.

@ThomasM125 I (or, rather, the company that handles my household employee payroll) paid the estimated taxes under my EIN, not my SSN. Is that going to cause issues? I assume they're tied on the IRS end.

I think you mean that you have a service that handles the payroll for your worker. If they also completed a W-2 and W-3 and payroll returns 941 or 943 to report the payroll and taxes, then you don't need to complete the schedule H on your tax return, since all of the payroll taxes have been paid in and accounted for.

Thank you! That's right. On a related question, as I go to file my return, I get a message saying Schedule H-T won't be available until March and I can't file until then. What does this mean?

It means the IRS has not yet completed this form for e-filing or print. It appears the Schedule H will be available to file on 3/17/22. These dates are subject to change.
