I believe that the $79.99 which "includes one free state filing" means that the software gives you the forms and information to file states taxes in ONE state.....as opposed to forms for those persons who have to file in more than one state. (Due to relocation situations or living close to a border & working in 2 states, etc.) The actual process of doing the e-File after completing the state taxes costs $24.99 if done through TurboTax.
In the Desktop program it is currently 24.99 to efile EACH state return including the first one. What you got for free was one state program download to prepare unlimited state returns. Then if you have to file a return in a different state you have to buy another state program for 44.99.
I understand the aswers everyone is giving but I have to add, I think it is deceptive of TurboTax to note on the box that it includes one free state filing. I too was not happy about paying $24.99 to file my state return.
Before March 1 it was 19.99 to efile state. The early discounted prices expired on March 1. And it says the 19.99 on the box. It's there probably on the back or side in the small print. And it doesn't actual say state filing. It says Fed+Efile+State. Not state efile.
If this is not going to work for me then yes I would want a refund
