Yes, TurboTax Online automatically saves your work as you progress through the tax interview. When you sign out your progress will be saved and you can sign back in and file your return at a later time. To sign out, simply click Sign Out at the bottom left of your screen.

The program doesn't always automatically save the return upon exiting. Be sure to go into file and click on save the first time you exit.  I didn't do this and lost all my information.  Foolishly I did this twice as I do other family members returns.  I learned my lesson the hard way.  This never happened to me before so it must be a glitch in the program so be careful.

TurboTax will prompt you to save when you exit.  TurboTax provides a document name and will save your return in the file folder "TurboTax" that was setup when you installed TurboTax.  Alternatively, before exiting TurboTax, click on "File" in the left hand corner and click "Save" or "Save As."  You can save your tax return in the file folder already established by TurboTax on your C:/ drive on your computer. Or, you can save your return in a file folder that you create and that is in a location that you prefer.  Your return can be saved on a computer or flash drive.  I think that the file names created by TurboTax are too long and I use a shorter version that is easy for me to remember.  For example, I might name my return "2017 Karen Form 1040."  I do not save my return in the "TurboTax" file folder.  Instead, I create file folders for each of my tax years (i.e., Tax 2017, Tax 2016, etc.) and file my return (both TurboTax and pdf versions) in the relevant year.  I save digital copies of my W-2, mortgage interest, IRS form instructions, etc. in the same folder.  I do taxes for myself and other family members and I find it easy to locate documents. I hope this explanation helps.

Absolutely! In most cases as long as it has auto-saved the info, I can sign-out and when I sign-in again it simply asks "start where you left off". Obviously you'll simply click "where I left off"!

I'm using TurboTax from Staples.  I'm not finished but want to save it to my computer but won't allow it..  Thank you.
