I need to change our filing status from married to head of hh on 2017. how do I do that?

We filed as common law married.  we have to change that

"We" cannot be HOH, as only one person can do that. If you were common law married under the laws of your state in 2017, you were Married for tax purposes. If you lived together at all during the second half of 2017, neither of you can file HOH.

However, if you did not meet the common law requirements in your state, then see below.
