Call the IRS: 1-800-829-1040 hours 7 AM - 7 PM local time Monday-Friday
When calling the IRS do NOT choose the first option re: "Refund", or it will send you to an automated phone line.
So after first choosing your language, then do NOT choose Option 1 (refund info). Choose option 2 for "personal income tax" instead.
Then press 1 for "form, tax history, or payment".
Then press 3 "for all other questions."
Then press 2 "for all other questions."
- When it asks you to enter your SSN or EIN to access your account information, don’t enter anything.
- After it asks twice, you will get another menu.
Then press 2 for personal or individual tax questions.
It should then transfer you to an agent.

This doesn't work anymore. Option 2 is for lost or stolen tax return which takes you to option 1 once you enter SSN and other necessary information. It seems there is no way to speak with a live person. So annoying.
I found a way:
Call [phone number removed] to make an appointment with your local tax office
Explain the situation to the operator and he/she helps you with your question

I just did it and it doesn't work. I did the first step then waited, the second step didn't work so I just waited then they put me through to a rep.
I just did this today Dec 20, 2018 and it worked to get to a live person. Albeit with a long wait for someone to answer, but it was less frustrating than fumbling through that horrible menu system into the black hole of everlasting despair.
i did it 2/12/2019 - people just need to read right the first time
and the system is f*ing horrible!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I just tried it and it still will not work. I have tried it twice today. I am over 22 days waiting on my taxes. This is aggravating
I have friends that filed the same day as me getting theirs Friday. This is so irritating. I don’t understand how only a few people got updates! It’s not like we can call and ACTUAL person to ask what’s going on!!!
ive called this number and selected the correct prompts and 2 different ladies transfer me to the darn automated system. so frustrating.
Just called it definitely works and only waited less than 2 minutes thanks very helpful and had a nice rep
Every time I call it says due to high call volume we can’t take your call then hangs up on me. I just want to know why my taxes are delayed.
It hung up on me! It’s been way over 21 days I’m stuck in Return received processing I’m getting really frustrated an d just want to talk to a live person!!
Yep I'm getting kicked off due to high call volume as well
@lintodn13 @sbrown1369 @thrjunki3 hey guys, the above method does work - but if everyone is getting that same "high call volume" message, try this number instead: Dial 800-829-zerofiveeighttwo - - its going to prompt for an extension which is 652.
I got through and the agent was very helpful and told me my deposit date should show up by next week! GOOD LUCK GUYS!
Thank you ! They told me to hold between 15-30 minutes
was able to talk to someone, i am 23 days waiting and they said if it is not received by the 27th then to call them back. so to anyone still wanting to know. it can be anywhere from tomorrow to the 27th.
I called that number @tanicasolomon and did get a person, however I need assistance registering for an online account (it keeps kicking me out and telling me the information I'm providing isn't matching our records) so I can download a copy of my 2017 return so I can call the identity verification number to finish filing my 2017 return so i can get my AGI to finish filing my 2018 return (it's kind of a clusterf*&^ right now lol)
I was given 866-255-zerosizfivefour which is apparently a professional financial line, not to use for personal online account stuff. These people then told me to call the -1040 number I called from THIS post... which tells me they're not answering questions.
I don't know what to do to get some damn answers!
