I moved to CA and started working late 2024. I didn't have access to employer provided health coverage until end of year enrollment. Why pay the penalty for all of 2024?

When did you move to CA? Are you filing resident or part-year resident CA return for 2024?

California residents are generally required to have health insurance to avoid a tax penalty.

I didn’t see the option to file for part year resident. I would need to file from Aug - Dec. and got the coverage in Dec when eligible from my employer. So I don’t think I should be liable for the penalty
