I would first print your 2016 and 2017 returns and compare them line by line. This will help you determine what has changed, if there are any discrepancies/items you missed or if you need to change any of the information you entered into TurboTax.
If your income decreased, that sometimes can reduce your refund due to you not having enough earned income to receive the deductions or credits you did before.
I checked both w2 and I made 400 dollars less then last year I paid 70 dollars less in federal withholding 26 less in social security withholding and 6.22 in Medicare withholding everything else is identical to the 52 dollars I send to United way to my exemptions of 1 the only reason I made more last year was overtime which I didn’t work any in 2017 I’m extremely upset and mind blown by this they say I owe 492 but how
And I prepared my taxes through turbo tax and tax act both said the I owed money but tax act said only 463
Did you compare the other return that had a refund of $463 to your TurboTax return and was there any difference?
From what I remember I filed the same on both I don’t even itemize and I should mention I have never owed the irs money and I’ve been at my current job going on 4 years is it possible they made a mistake meaning the company I work for
If you have your 2016 w-2, I would compare the wages (box 2) and Federal and State income taxes withheld. If they withheld less taxes than last year, that would have a huge effect on your return.
Even if I made 400 less this year they took 70 dollars less this year on federal and 26 less on social security and 6.22 less in Medicare withholding would that truly cause me to pay 492 to the irs when the sum of those differences isn’t equal to that
Shouldn’t they take less taxes out if I make less taxable income
Did you have any credits or deductions you took last year that you did not this year?
