I'm trying to add a member of my LLC who is not a US taxpayer and doesn't have a SSN. I've tried inputting "000-00-0000" but it gives me an "Invalid SSN" error.

To add a non-US taxpayer to your LLC in TurboTax, you will likely need to obtain an Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN) for the member.

  • An ITIN is issued by the IRS to individuals who are not eligible for a Social Security Number (SSN) but need a taxpayer identification number for tax purposes.
  • Here are the steps to obtain an ITIN and add the member to your LLC:
    • Apply for an ITIN: The member can apply for an ITIN by submitting Form W-7, along with the required identification documents, such as a passport.
    • You can find more information and the form on the IRS website here)
  • Use the ITIN in TurboTax: Once the ITIN is obtained, you can use it in place of the SSN when adding the member to your LLC in TurboTax.
