I’m fostering dogs for a 501c3 animal rescue. what about when the dogs live in the house? Can I claim a portion of my utilities?

You can claim the direct costs of fostering these animals as a charitable donation (cash).

Direct costs would include the cost of food, medications, supplies, bathing/grooming, bedding and the like.

You cannot claim any indirect costs, such as utilities, unless they are costs of a dedicated kennel facility used solely for fostering the animals.

Thanks for your support of our 4-legged friends! I have 3 rescue dogs (one is a "tripod").
