I'm a sole proprietor on Etsy, and I don't have an EIN. How do I enter an EIN for this form?

I'm at the end of the e-file and keep getting this message to check form 1099-NEC and enter an EIN number. I'm a sole proprietor that has been using my SSN but this particular form will not let me use my SSN in this field, what do I do here?

Did you receive a 1099-NEC? If you did, the form has an EIN. If you did not, you should not be entering the income this way. Did you get a 1099-K? Enter that, along with its TIN.

If you did not get a reporting form, enter it as cash.

I did not receive that form, my file had a bug that created like 10 untitled 1099-NECs for me. After deleting them, that prompt went away. Thanks!

Sole proprietor does not need an EIN to operate a business. Generally, self-employment income is reported on 1099-NEC.  If you didn't  have the form, you may enter it as other income on line 8 Part3, Schedule 1 of form 1040.  Here are the steps to enter other income not reported on 1099-Misc:

  1. Login to Turbo Tax.
  2. Jump to Personal Income under Income and Expenses
  3. Scroll all the way down until you get to Less common income, then click start next to Miscellaneous income, 1099-A, 1099-C.
  4. Scroll all the way down, and click start on Other reportable income.
  5. Next screen is Other Taxable Income
