I'm a freelance writer and editor, and I exclusively write for some clients and exclusively edit for others. Can I enter this as a single line of work instead of two?

I'm a freelance writer and editor, and I exclusively write for some clients and exclusively edit for others. These two lines of work are incredibly similar, and I perform both jobs with the same equipment, but they are technically two different lines of work. Can I enter this as a single line of work instead of two on my "Your 2017 self-employed work summary"?

Yes, you can combine the writer and editor income on a single line and treat as one business.  The main thing will be that you have the backup detail to substantiate the amount of income (whether you report on one line or two) and expenses you record for your business.
