I live in PA and work in WV

I live in PA and work in WV. The company only held WV taxes. How do I retrieve the taxes paid to WV and pay them to PA?

If your employer withheld taxes for WV, see How do I file a nonresident state return? You'll have to get a refund from WV and file a resident tax return for PA and pay any taxes due.

As a worker in a reciprocal state, you can fill out the WV state exemption form, WV/IT-104 R, and give it to your employer if you don't want them to withhold taxes for your work state.

  • If you do this, make sure your employer also withholds taxes for your resident state, otherwise you may get hit with underpayment penalties come tax time.
