I Keep Trying to Submit My 1099-NEC But I keep Getting an Error Message Saying Missing Info

I am trying to submit my taxes but this 1099-NEC is holding me up. I put in the name of the payer, the payer's TIN, and the information in box 1 of the form and it's telling me that it's missing information even though THERE IS NO OTHER INFORMATION ON THE FORM. I am so frustrated!!! There is nothing in box 4-7 and the amount is less than $5,000. It has nothing to do with back wages or self-employment wages either. What am I doing wrong?!

Run a federal review to see if any details will come up regarding the 1099-NEC form.

How do I do that?

Before you run a review, have you gone back to where you entered the 1099-NEC and go through all the entries to make sure they are all entered correctly.

To run a review:

TurboTax Online:

  1. Open TurboTax if it is not already open.
  2. Click on Federal in the TurboTax Menu on the left side of the screen.
  3. Across the top of the screen, you will see "Federal Review
  4. Click on "Federal Review
  5. Click Continue until you come to the screen that says "Let's check your federal return and make sure it's good to go"
  6. If there are issues or errors in your return, the results identify any potential issues or errors,
  7. Click Continue and then review the entries

TurboTax Desktop

  1. Open TurboTax if it is not already open.
  2. Click on "Review"  (you can find it across the top of your screen)
  3. Click "Continue" and a review of your return will run
  4. When complete, click "Continue"
  5. If there are errors or issues, it will identify them and ask for you to review or you will get a green checkmark saying that every is good to go

I just had this same issue.  Only box 1 has an amount and box 6 has the state. 4, 5, and 7 are zero.

Another tax expert on here said to put the amount in box 1 in box 7 as well and leave 4 and 5 as zero.

@Syce Hollywood

You don't need the entry in box 6 if there isn't anything in box 5 or 7, so you can leave those blank. Also, you don't need to enter $0 in any of the boxes, just leave them blank.
