You may be able to retrieve your IP PIN. See the instructions below. Most taxpayers don't need an an IP PIN – the IRS only issues them in select cases. More info

If you know you need an IP PIN to file your taxes and you lost your CP01A letter (or never received it), you can:

  • Retrieve your IP PIN online at the IRS's Get an IP PIN site; or
  • Call the IRS at 1-800-908-4490 to have your IP PIN mailed to you. However, this can take up to 21 days.

We are unable to issue IP PINs and you won't find them on your tax paperwork. You can only get IP PINs from the IRS.

One financial account number linked to your name:

  • Credit card – last 8 digits (no American Express, debit or corporate cards) or
  • Student loan – (Enter the student loan account number provided on your statement. The account number may contain both numbers and letters. Do not include any symbols.) or
  • Mortgage or home equity loan or
  • Home equity line of credit (HELOC) or
  • Auto loan

have this information ready and go to the IRS website to get your IP PIN immediately.

You must have a phone in your name (Voip numbers won't work)

If you are on a family plan, your name will not be listed as the owner.

Who knows when the IRS will answer their phone again.

@Choppy Tom

To register for and use the IP PIN online tool, having a phone is not listed as a requirement.

When you try to register it then says you need a phone.

You should try anyway.

Without a phone you may be able to get the IRS to mail you a confirmation code at your home address,

That of course is not your IP  PIN, then log in to retrieve your IP PIN.

Why not just mail the IP PIN again? you're not allowed to ask that question.

I have the same exact dilemma.

So many people are having the same issue. You request the pin by mail but it never arrives. You hold for hours and when someone finally does answer, they DO tell you that you need your own cell phone plan. You can't be on anyone else's plan. Call a rep at Turbo Tax to see if they have any suggestions. They sure do. You can

pay to speak with a qualified rep who tells you to do all the same things you've already tried! If you didn't have to file 2018 taxes, that's a problem too. Seems to me this is quite a circuitous plan the IRS has to hold on to

everyone's hard earned money.
